Marlon Brando - The Wild One/On The Waterfront/The Ugly American/The Appaloosa DVD

| DVD

Titles Comprise: The Wild One: Brando plays Johnny the leader of a vicious biker gang that involves a small sleepy California town. The leather-jacketed young biker seems hell-bent on destruction until he falls for Kathie (Mary Murphy) a good-girl whose father happens to be a cop. Unfortunately for Johnny his one shot at redemption is threatened by a psychotic rival Chino (Lee Marivn) plus the hostility and prejudice of the townspeople. All their smouldering passions explode in an electrifying climax. On The Waterfront: Marlon Brando is the longshoreman who finds himself... increasingly isolated when he challenges the might and power of the tough New York City dockers' Union. Rod Steiger is his elder brother torn between loyalty to union and love of family. Lee J. Cobb is the powerful union boss while Eva Marie Saint is the girl with whom Brando falls in love. The Ugly American: Harrison MacWhite has just been named ambassador to the (fictional) Southeast Asian country of Sarkhan but may regret taking the job. When he arrives there MacWhite discovers a country in turmoil and he can't help becoming involved in the nation's incendiary politics. Furthermore MacWhite's naivete -- and cockiness -- only make things worse... The Appaloosa: Marlon Brando star as Matt Fletcher a Mexican-American buffalo hunter who sets out to get revenge on the local bandit (played by John Saxon) that steals his beloved horse. [show more]

Four films starring Marlon Brando. 'The Wild One' (1953) is the classic biker movie in which Marlon Brando famously responds to the question 'What are you rebelling against?' with the retort 'What d'ya got?'. A gang of motorcyclists, led by rebellious Johnny (Brando), ride into a small California town and terrorise the inhabitants. Johnny falls for the local cop's daughter (Mary Murphy), but a rival in his gang (Lee Marvin) and the hostility of the townspeople create too many tensions for anything but a violent climax. In 'On the Waterfront' (1954), ex-boxer Terry Malloy (Brando) becomes involved in corrupt dockside politics through his lawyer brother Charley (Rod Steiger), who works for gangster union boss Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb). When Terry witnesses the murder of a union worker by Johnny's thugs, his conscience begins to trouble him. He meets the murdered man's sister (Eva Marie Saint), and learns from Father Barry (Karl Malden) that the dead man was about to expose Johnny's illegal activities. Father Barry then tries to convince Terry to provide the evidence required to put Johnny behind bars. The film won eight Oscars, including Best Actor for method man Brando. In 'The Ugly American' (1962) Brando plays a publisher who is appointed ambassador to a small Asian nation in the throes of a communist insurgency, and his arrival leads to an escalation in the fighting. Brando stars in 'The Appaloosa' (1966) as the lone wanderer returning home with some hard-earned money and a valuable horse (the Appaloosa), planning to settle down and start a stud farm. Unfortunately the horse is stolen by crazy Mexican bandit Chuy (John Saxon), sparking off a long-running duel between the two men.
