In this excellent introduction to meditation, His Holiness talks about how mental happiness is more enduring than physical and that to obtain mental happiness we must train or transform our mind by meditation. There are two main types; analytical and single pointed and His holiness gives a clear explanation on each type and their practical application in our daily lives. He points out that we are not caring enough about our mind as we focus too much on external objects. His Holiness also includes an explanation of compassion and how meditating on this brings happiness... and improves our mental ability for work, etc.Meditation practised regularly can also improve tolerance and self confidence. He concludes by saying we must value our own traditions, discriminating between what is useful and what is not, and that a combination of ancient wisdom and modern technology is useful.
