Claire Barnard is an attractive if somewhat dowdy paralegal who works for playboy lawyer Denny Montana at his San Francisco practice. Her loyalty and dedication are largely taken for granted by Denny who is quite happy to have her take care of the everyday running of the practice since this affords him the time for more pleasurable pursuits. Denny is of course completely oblivious to the fact that Claire harbours romantic feelings for him.
