Japanese anime feature based on the manga series by Hinako Sugiura about a real life artist and his daughter. Set in Edo (now known as Tokyo) in 1814, the story follows O-Ei (voice of Anne Watanabe), daughter of the accomplished and unconventional painter Tetsuzo (Yutaka Matsushige). He encourages O-Ei to develop her artistic skills which sees her becoming as uninhibited as her father, putting her at odds with conservative Japanese society. While Tetsuzo goes on to become world-famous, O-Ei remains relatively unknown and uncredited, despite the contributions she makes to her father's art.
