This comic fantasy adventure is a big screen Japanese spin-off from the TV series based on the 16th century Chinese novel 'Record of a Journey to the West' by Wu Cheng'en. The characters will be familiar to British viewers of the earlier TV series, 'Monkey' (1978), and Damon Albarn's recent stage smash, 'Monkey: Journey to the West'. In this film, Tripitaka (Eri Fukatsu) and his loyal band of followers led by Monkey (Shingo Katori) are implored by a feisty princess to protect her people from a powerful demon warlord, King Gold Horn (Takeshi Kaga), and his tyrannical brother, King Silver Horn (Goro Kishitani). Monkey, Sandy (Teruyoshi Uchimura), Pigsy (Atsushi Ito) and Tripitaka must fight to defeat the evil warlords and prevent the world from being plunged into eternal darkness.
On the way to India to collect ancient holy scrolls the sacred priest Tripitaka and his loyal band of followers led by Monkey are implored by a mysterious princess to protect her people from a powerful demon warlord King Gold Horn and his tyrannical brother King Silver Horn They have wrestled control of the palace plundered its riches and transformed the royal family into terrapin tortoises Mischievous Monkey Sandy Pigsy and Tripitaka must combine their strength to defeat the evil warlords and prevent the world being plunged into darkness forever!
