The man on the moon is bored. One day he hitches a ride to Earth on the tails of a passing comet - an 'attack from outer space' that sets the alarm bells ringing in the President's headquarters - and starts to explore the fantastical creatures and sights of a new planet. But all is not well - the Moon Man's absence from his post means that all the world's children are unable to sleep. Before the President can capture him they must join forces to return him to his rightful place in the sky.

Animated feature based on a story and accompanying illustrations by Tomi Ungerer. When the man on the moon (voice of Katharina Thalbach) hitches a ride on a passing comet in order to reach Earth, he has no idea what's in store for him when he gets there. Believing his appearance is the precursor of an alien attack, the President (Ulrich Tukur) aims to capture him before he can cause any harm, but on the contrary, the Moon Man has come in peace and is preoccupied with his discoveries on the alien planet. However, while on his adventure, Moon Man learns that by leaving his post, the children of Earth are unable to sleep, and as he avoids capture he is tasked with finding a way back home...
