In the wake of the hugely popular film 'Buena Vista Social Club', Cuban music came to enjoy worldwide popularity throughout the late 1990s. In 2002, 87-year-old Cuban music legend Pio Leiva formed a new band that included some of the most popular young musicians Cuba had to offer, including Mayito Riviera, El Nene, Telmary Diaz and the Chiki Chaka Girls. This film shows the line-up's debut concert in Tokyo, Japan, which triggered the formation of the Sons of Cuba.
