One of Roy Rogers' own favourite among his many films My Pal Trigger sees Gabby Kendrick refuse permission for his horse Golden Sovereign to breed with Roy's horse. The horses escape and Golden Sovereign is shot by mistake with Roy getting the blame and ending up in jail. He returns a year later with Trigger the son of Golden Sovereign and sets about clearing his name.
