Having quickly stifled any threat from the likes of Rooney and Berbatov, Newcastle doubled the lead just after half time as Yohan Cabaye expertly curled in a 30 yard free-kick before the final goal, coming as a result of a long ball from Krul, which landed deep in the opposition box, and landing awkwardly for defender Phil Jones who put it past his own keeper to complete the rout and send the champions home with a lesson learned.
