Peter Greenaway writes and directs this biographical drama exploring the life and work of 19th-century Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn. Martin Freeman stars as the famed artist, who reluctantly agrees to paint the Amsterdam Musketeer Militia for the group portrait that will eventually become known as 'The Nightwatch'. When he uncovers a sinister murder plot at the heart of the Amsterdam military, he determines to expose it through the medium of his painting, an act that ultimately leads to his personal and professional ruin.
