Cynthia Mort writes and directs this biographical drama starring Zoe Saldana as legendary musician and civil rights activist Nina Simone. With her career at a crossroads and her struggles with alcoholism and financial problems taking their toll on her mental health, an unstable Nina is committed to a Los Angeles psychiatric hospital after threatening a lawyer with a gun. While there, she meets young orderly Clifton Henderson (David Oyelowo) and quickly hires him to be her new assistant. Despite struggling to deal with Nina's erratic behaviour, the pair begin to form an unlikely friendship as Clifton helps her to overcome her health problems and mount a comeback at a special concert in New York. The cast also includes Ronald Guttman, Chuma Gault and Mike Epps.
