Alan Ladd stars in this revenge Western scripted by Aaron Spelling. When Mitch (Ladd) is driven from his home at the end of the Civil War, he and his wife Ellie (Rachel Stephens) have no option other than to take to the road, all but penniless. Their situation is made even more perilous by the fact that Ellie is heavily pregnant. Things come to a head when they arrive in a small town and Ellie falls ill. Though the medicine required to treat her costs less than two dollars, Mitch is unable to afford it and his wife and unborn baby are lost. The people of the town feel so guilty in the aftermath of Mitch's bereavement that they offer him a position as a sheriff of the town. Little do they know that Mitch is far from pacified by this and is intent on using his new role to punish each and every member of the town for the lack of charity they showed his wife...
