Starring Paul Danman and Zena Walker, and featuring Golden Globe nominee David McCallum and Oscar nominee Rachel Roberts. When waterman Gaffer Hexam (Julian Somers) and daughter Lizzie (Rachel Roberts) fish a battered corpse from the Thames, it is identified as that of John Harmon. Had Harmon lived, his father s will required him to marry pretty Bella Wilfer (Zena Walker). Instead, the substantial estate passes on to Mr and... Mrs Boffin (Richard Pearson and Marda Vanne), a kindhearted couple who adopt Bella. All 12 episodes of the 1958 BBC adaptation of the classic novel by Charles Dickens. Waterman Gaffer Hexam (Julian Somers) and his daughter Lizzie (Rachel Roberts) are on a regular fishing trip on the River Thames when they fish out the dead body of John Harmon. It is discovered that Harmon was due to marry Bella Wilfer (Zena Walker), as per the instructions of his late father's will, as a condition to him inheriting his family's estate. With Harmon dead however, the substantial inheritance is set to go to Mr and Mrs Boffin (Richard Pearson and Marda Vanne) who come with a mysterious man named John Rokesmith (Paul Daneman) who they employ as their secretary. But is Rokesmith all he seems?
