Classic British drama directed by Roy Ward Baker. As Captain Lucky Ryland (Peter Finch) prepares to retire, he reminisces about one of his early voyages. During the mission, Ryland's cargo ship is forced to welcome aboard British governess Ruth Elton (Diane Cilento), after she is left stranded in South America. The captain quickly falls for his new passenger but so too does First Mate Vosper (Anthony Steel), setting up a competition for her affection on the long passage home.
