Let's face it: Will and Gareth were always going to be the main draw on the Pop Idol 2002 Tour), the live show that took the kids out of the studio and onto the road. After the drawn-out finale of the TV show, the ones who didn't make it got to strut their stuff in front of thousands of teenage girls all screaming for Will and Gareth. It's a glitzy show, undoubtedly, but there is little here that bears repeat viewing, since we saw the wannabes do this every Saturday night for what felt like a century. Given that, thus far, not one of the other so-called "stars" (after... Mr Gates, Mr Danesh and Mr Young) have even troubled the Top 40, this tour seems like 14 minutes more fame than most of them deserved. One for the fans only. On the DVD: Pop Idol 2002 Tour is presented in 16:9 anamorphic and Dolby 5.1, so it looks and sounds great, but the standard behind-the-scenes feature and split-screen options are dull and hardly provide much of an insight. --Jonathan Weir [show more]
