For the fifth year in a row New Years' Eve 2006 saw Pride FC assemble a card stacked with their biggest stars and packed with blockbuster fights. The company's biggest show of the year was headlined by their biggest star Pride Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko taking on the challenger Mark Hunt. In another Heavyweight bout current UFC star Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira faced American Josh Barnett to try and establish the pecking order in the division.
