Purple Sunset unfolds the late summer in 1945 right after the atomic bomb attacked on Nagasaki. During a harsh winter season a Soviet unit enters China and engages Japanese troops in a big battle. When the fighting is over there are only three survivors; a Russian soldier a Japanese soldier and a Chinese soldier. Cut off from the rest of the world and not entirely trusting one another they band together on a long and danger-filled journey gradually developing a friendship that crosses borders. Along the journey they capture a young Japanese girl who intentionally leads... them into a minefield and gets the Russian commander killed.
