An overweight school misfit discovers the Cinderella effect in this high school comedy from director Peter Levin. Marginalised by her peers at school because of her weight and her working class background, Maggie Baker (Nikki Blonski) knows she's never going to be in with the 'in crowd'. But when some mean-spirited classmates nominate her for the title of Homecoming Queen, Maggie decides to fight back, against the advice of just about everyone she knows - including her mother (Annie Potts). Taking the fight to the bullies, Maggie sets out to reclaim her pride, stand up for the underdogs, and show everyone she knows that it's not what's on the outside that counts.
