Nicole Kidman and James Franco star in this US biographical drama written and directed by Werner Herzog. The film follows Gertrude Bell (Kidman), the daughter of wealthy British parents who moves to Tehran to live with her uncle. After meeting and falling in love with embassy employee Henry Cadogan (Franco), the pair have their plans to marry dashed by Gertrude's parents who disapprove of the romance. When Henry then commits suicide, a devastated Gertrude devotes her time to writing and exploring the rest of the Middle East. The cast also includes Damian Lewis, Robert Pattinson and Jenny Agutter.
