England, the 1950s. When the eligible Nigel, Earl of Marshwood (Edward Atterton) announces his engagement to Hollywood actress Miranda Frayle (Jean Tripplehorn), it causes all manner of trouble. To start with, his mother Felicity (Julie Andrews) is upset that he is marrying outside the aristocracy; then there's Miranda's movie star ex-lover Don Lucas (William Baldwin), who is determined to win her back; and finally there's the bombshell dropped by Felicity's assistant Moxie (Sophie Thompson), who claims to be Miranda's estranged sister. Will Nigel and Miranda ever make it to the altar or will the plotting and complications get the better of them?
