John Malkovich stars as master criminal Tom Ripley in this follow-up to 'The Talented Mr Ripley'. Now an art dealer living in Northern Italy, Ripley attends a party given by Jonathan Trevanny (Dougray Scott) and is angered when the host makes a critical remark about his dress sense. Determined to get his own back, Ripley arranges for Trevanny to become involved in a plot to kill a Russian gangster. But the situation soon spins out of control, and Ripley is forced to intervene once again. Based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, which was previously adapted by Wim Wenders as 'The American Friend' (1977).
