Grisly retelling of the famous Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Years after the tragic death of his wife, Lilliana, Frederick Hoffman (Sam Neill) tells his daughter Lilli that he is going to remarry. Frederick's new bride, Claudia (Sigourney Weaver), arrives with her mute brother Gustav and a magic mirror. Claudia becomes jealous of Lilli's beauty, especially after suffering a miscarriage at the ball held to celebrate her pregnancy. She sends Gustav to kill Lilli, who escapes and finds solace with a group of socially-outcast gold miners.
