Everyone has seen South Park at some point or another. You only need to see one scene to know if you're a massive fan, or completely disgusted. The brainchild or Trey Parker and Matt Stone has been entertaining and offending for years. This first season may not be as strong as later years, but it is still a real gem of a show. My favourite episodes from this season include: "Damien" - a colossal fight between the Devil and Jesus, and "Cartman's Mom Is A Dirty Slut" - the quest to find Cartman's father, with a nail-biting cliffhanger. This DVD set also includes a couple of music videos, and an exclusive scene with Jay Leno. A large number of people will brush it aside as too crude or too immature, but those who appreciate it are greatly rewarded. In 1997, it was the "thing" to see. In 2009, it is still the "thing" to see.
