Joseph Losey's last film is an adaptation of Nell Dunn's stage play about a group of middle-aged women who meet regularly in a shabby Turkish bathhouse in London. As the steam cleanses their bodies, the women talk frankly and intimately about their lives, hopes and fears - and when the building is threatened with closure, they pull together in an attempt to save it. The cast includes Vanessa Redgrave, Patti Love, Sarah Miles and Diana Dors.
