French drama in which a traumatised war veteran strikes up an unlikely friendship with a child. Pierre (Hardy Krüger) returns to France haunted by his role in the Vietnamese war. Pierre was a pilot and is racked with remorse over a mission in which one of his bombs killed a child. As he mopes around Paris, unable to fit back into civilian life, he stumbles across François (Patricia Gozzi), a 12-year-old girl who has been put into an orphanage by her father. The two lonely and troubled souls become close, with Pierre posing as the father of François in order to take her for outings on Sundays. Will others understand the bond between Pierre and François, or will they misconstrue the war veteran's motives?
