Glossy musical portrayal of Nazi Germany produced by Disney, in which a group of teenagers calling themselves the 'Swing Kids' express their rebellion against Hitler's regime by adopting American and British fashion, modes of speech and the swing music prevalent in the US in the late 30s and early 40s, but banned in pre-war Germany. Half drama, half musical, the film follows the escapades of Peter (Robert Sean Leonard), Thomas (Christian Bale) and Arvid (Frank Whaley) as their initially secret swing sessions become increasingly bold - and they are ultimately forced to decide between safety and freedom, family and politics.
