Szindbad DVD

| DVD

Regarded as one of the great 'lost' masterpieces of international cinema, Zoltn Huszrik's 1971 film is finally availabe for the first time on DVD. A surreal and highly stylized adaptation of the early 20th century writings of author Gyula Krdy, the film depicts the life, loves and memories of traveller and womanizer Szindbd (played by the great Hungarian actor Zoltn Latinovits), as he contemplates his life of hedonism and impropriety and who tries to recover his great lost love before he dies. Evoking time and memory to extraordinary effect, Szindbd is a filmic elegy... that is both lyrical and surreal - an experience unlike anything in modern cinema. [show more]

Zoltán Huszárik directs this classic of Hungarian cinema, adapted from the writings of Gyula Krúdy. Highly stylised, elegaic and surreal, the film recounts the life, loves and memories of ageing dandy and womaniser Szindbád (Zoltán Latinovits) as he looks back on a life centred around sensual pleasures and hedonism. However, as Szindbád passes into old age and faces up to the reality of his own mortality, he realises too late that his aversion to emotional attachment has left him with a life devoid of real love or meaning.
