Badiei (Homayoon Irshadi) is a middle-aged man driving his white Range Rover through the outskirts of Tehran. He periodically offers lifts or financial assistance to people - a man in a telephone box, a man collecting plastic bags, a soldier - in an attempt to persuade them to bury him. For Mr Badiei intends to commit suicide, and has already dug his own grave - all he needs is someone to place his body in it and cover it up. This film won the Palme D'Or at Cannes in 1997.
