This is Seth McFarlane's (creator of Family Guy) first attempt at bringing his own unique style of humour to cinema audiences. McFarlane has written, directed and starred (as voiceover) in Ted and it is generally thought that anyone who likes Family Guy will love this movie.
John Bennett's Teddy bear Christmas present (computer generated for the film) came to life when John, aged 8, lonely and with no friends at the time, made a wish that they could be friends forever. Remarkably his wish came true. Ever since that time the two have been joined at the hip,... growing up through adolescence and into adulthood together, experiencing all the excesses that often go with that; parties, alcohol, dope, bad attitude, bad habits etc.
Now a grown man, John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) is in a long term relationship with Lori Collins (Mila Kunis), who although she tolerates the vulgar rather laddish antics of the uncouth celebrity teddy bear, is convinced that Ted is holding John back and is a bad influence, not only in his love life but also in his career. She feels things must change before they can move on. John eventually realises he must face up to and deal with his bizarre situation but Ted flatly refuses to leave his side which causes some real problems. How will it all end?
This film has been variously described as shockingly humorous, mischievous, rude and crude, excellent, the best comedy ever - the list goes on. Watch it and decide for yourself.
