This special edition of James Cameron's 1989 sci-fi adventure includes 28 minutes of extra footage that made the film closer to the director's intended vision. The crew of an innovative, underwater deep-sea mining platform find their mission disrupted when they are seconded to the US Navy to help salvage a sunken submarine. As hostile weather conditions 'topside' sever their links with the outside world, they discover more than they bargained for in the guise of nuclear warheads and a submerged alien life-form and ship. The film differs from the original in that it features the slide to war between the US and the Soviet Union, more characterisation and an extended descent into the abyss for Ed Harris' character.
