The Battle of San Pietro saw newly re-formed Italian Forces working with the Allies for the first time. They suffered appalling losses in what quickly became a battle of epic proportions. The town was ultimately destroyed. Today the new town of San Pietro is about 11/2 km from the ruins of the old one.
