The captain of a US naval destroyer (Richard Widmark) pursues a Russian submarine through the Arctic, ready to give the command for an atomic attack. Sidney Poitier plays the journalist along for the ride. Director James Harris, a former producer of Stanley Kubrick, presents similar themes to Kubrick's 'Dr Strangelove', very much in vogue in the Cold War due to the fear and paranoia caused by the brinkmanship of the Superpowers. Also with James MacArthur, Martin Balsam and Donald Sutherland.
