| DVD

Enzo (Jean Reno L''on The Da Vinci Code) and Jacques (Jean-Marc Barr Breaking the Waves Dogville) have known each other for a long time. Their friendship started in their childhood days in the Mediterranean where they shared a love for diving. After Jacques' father dies in a diving accident the two lose contact. Now an adult Enzo is living in Sicily where for six years he has been the uncontested free diving world champion. He sends for Jacques who is living in the Peruvian Andes and insists that he competes for the title. Jacques comes to Sicily and easily beats Enzo.... It is a juncture not unlike outer space, where conventional notions of time and distance evaporate. It is a magical and dangerous place to which the human body, as well as the human spirit, must adapt. It is the only place where a man named Jacques Mayhol truly feels at home. It is the sea - The Big Blue.     Interactive menus     Scene access     Original theatrical trailer Actors     Rosanna Arquette, Jean-Marc Barr, Jean Reno, Paul Shenar, Griffin Dunne & Kimberly Beck Director    Luc Besson Certificate    15 years and over Year    1988 Screen    Widescreen 16:9 Anamorphic Languages    English - Dolby Surround Additional Languages    French Subtitles    French ; Dutch ; English For The Hearing Impaired Duration    2 hours and 43 minutes (approx)

Luc Besson's film about the dangers of obsession and rivalry. A lifelong rivalry between two deep sea divers (who dive without aqualungs) culminates in a series of free-diving competitions. Jacques Mayol (Jean-Marc Barr) can reach unprecedented depths without breathing apparatus, while Enzo (Jean Reno) is driven to dive by obsession. Rosanna Arquette falls for Jacques when she sees him diving in Peru, where she is working. But she is unable to get in contact with him and when he returns to Italy she hatches a plot to get work to transfer her there so that she can be close to him.
