The Campbells - The Fastest Men on Earth DVD

| DVD

Speed, danger, global attention... welcome to the family business! This incredible programme, featuring fascinating Movietone archive, weaves together the story of two men, father and son, who became household names in their quest to become the fastest men on Earth. The father is Sir Malcolm Campbell, a true British hero revered around the world who broke the Land Speed record no less than 9 times. The first man to break the 300mph barrier on land, Sir Malcolm then turned his attention to the Water Speed record. No less successful in his endeavour, he set the record... 4 times, the final time at Lake Coniston in April 1939 with a record speed of 141 mph. The son is Donald Campbell, a man who achieved incredible feats in his tragically short life, setting a total of seven Water Speed records between 1955 and 1964 and becoming the only man in history to hold both Land and Water records at the same time. His early death in 1967, as he attempted to take the Water Speed record to over 300mph, was at the very same lake where his father had set the record 28 years earlier. [show more]
