The Complete Chorlton & the Wheelies: Series One DVD

| DVD

Jump in we'll take you for a spin/And show you round the Wheelie World" . For pretty much anyone between the ages of 25 and 40, merely the opening line of the theme to this crazed slice of cartoon bedlam will be enough to jog memories and pluck heartstrings. For everyone else, a brief synopsis is probably in order. Well, self-evidently there's Chorlton, the least intimidating dragon in television history, whose unexplained arrival among the Wheelies is a constant source of vexation to Fenella, a spectacularly ineffective witch with a base camp at Spout Hall (yes, it's... a big kettle) and a cadre of mushroom-like toadies and "spikers" with whom she consorts to bring havoc to Wheelie World. Oh, and she also has a son, who only ever appears as a vast, disembodied foot. In short, Chorlton is a crown jewel for all fans of 70s children's TV at its most unapologetically demented. The first series opens with "Happiness is Hatched", wherein, of course, Chorlton arrives fully formed in Wheelie World via an enormous egg. Needless to say, the ever-apoplectic Fenella remains hysterical throughout. --Danny Leigh [show more]

Long ago, this land was full of happiness and laughter, but then the wicked witch Fenella arrived on the scene, and set up home in Spout Hall - a kettle - on the outskirts of the Wheelie Kingdom.    Fenella has cast her spell. Colour has faded from the land, laughter is silenced, and all the Wheelies are sad and dejected. A large, brightly coloured egg arrives and from it emerges a strange and wonderful creature - Chorlton, the Happiness Dragon. This happy fellow brings back joy and laughter to Wheelie World, and Fenella finds she has met her match, or has she?    Join Chorlton and his Wheelie friends for thirteen exciting episodes. You'll burst with happiness... and that's gradely!    Bye Bye little ol' lady!

Entire first series of adventures for Chorlton the dragon and his Wheelie chums. In 'Happiness is Hatched', the arrival of happiness dragon Chorlton releases the inhabitants of Wheelie World from Welsh witch Fenella's wicked spell. 'Happiness is Dragon Shaped' sees the local plants all unhappy after Fenella the witch has cast a spell. In 'Chorlton Says it with Flowers', Fenella tries to kidnap the still far-from-glum Chorlton. 'The Lost Wheelie' sees Zoomer being kidnapped by Fenella, but rescued by Chorlton's happiness, and in 'Chorlton and the Crimewave', Chorlton is blamed for the theft of the king's crown. In 'Chorlton Gets His Wheels', Chorlton gets to keep up with his new friends when he is given a skateboard. 'The Great Drought' sees wicked witch Fenella attempting to ruin the Wheelies' cordial well opening, while in 'The Wheelhockey Derby', Chorlton and Clifford compete in the Wheelies' derby. 'Many Happy Returns' sees Chorlton's birthday celebrations placed in jeopardy by Fenella's wickedness, and in 'The Dancing Lesson', Chorlton befriends Pablo - a Latin-American dancing duck! 'The Day of the Grand Race' sees Fenella's attempts to spoil the Wheelies' race foiled by her giant son, Clifford, while in 'When the Band Played On', Fenella is shocked to discover that the Wheelies and Chorlton have formed a band! Finally, in 'Chorlton's Gift of Happiness', even Fenella seems to have discovered the Christmas spirit - could this be something to do with the extra-special job Chorlton has to perform?
