Mary Mungo and Midge was first shown on the BBC in the early 1970s and rapidly achieved cult status. Each 15-minute story concerned the adventures of a little girl called Mary her dog called Mungo and the little mouse Midge. They lived in a large inner city tower block the pinnacle of 1970s architecture. In each story we find the trio leaving the safety of their flat and getting into bother in the big wide scary world outside - returning to safety only to have to negotiate the terrifying lift.
