George Sanders, Margaret Lindsay and Vincent Price star in this horror remake, based on Nathaniel Hawthorne's gothic novel. While having to sell their supposedly cursed ancestral home to pay off their debts, Jaffrey Pyncheon (Sanders) becomes obsessed with rumours that a vast sum of money is hidden inside the house and begins searching for it. His older brother, Clifford (Price), however, just wants to sell the house and move to New York with his cousin Hepzibah (Lindsay). After their father dies of a heart attack, Jaffrey accuses Clifford of murder and has him imprisoned. 20 years later, Clifford returns with a cunning plan to get revenge on his younger brother.
