The house of Seven Gables has a bloody history, dating back to when Colonel Pyncheon falsely accused a poor carpenter, Matthew Maule, of witchcraft. After Maule is hanged, Colonel Pycnheon usurps his land and builds the luxurious Pyncheon home on it. But with his dying breath Maule has laid a curse on all who live at Seven Gables, and when the Colonel dies shortly afterwards, the Pyncheon family is condemned to live in the shadow of the Maule Curse'. George Sanders, Margaret Lindsay and Vincent Price star in this horror remake, based on Nathaniel Hawthorne's gothic novel. While having to sell their supposedly cursed ancestral home to pay off their debts, Jaffrey Pyncheon (Sanders) becomes obsessed with rumours that a vast sum of money is hidden inside the house and begins searching for it. His older brother, Clifford (Price), however, just wants to sell the house and move to New York with his cousin Hepzibah (Lindsay). After their father dies of a heart attack, Jaffrey accuses Clifford of murder and has him imprisoned. 20 years later, Clifford returns with a cunning plan to get revenge on his younger brother.
