The Key Unknown

| Unknown

Tinto Brass's first major film since the notorious Caligula stars Frank Finlay as a man who is terrified of losing his voluptuous wife Teresa (Stefania Sandrelli) because he is unable to satisfy her sexually. He arranges for her to have an affair, by taking erotic photographs of her and asking her would-be lover to develop them. Frank Finlay and Stefania Sandrelli star in this Italian drama written and directed by Tinto Brass. In 1940s Venice, a couple celebrate the 20th anniversary of their wedding, but neither of them is fully satisfied with the sexual side of their relationship. Nino (Finlay) and Teresa (Sandrelli) both decide to keep secret diaries in which they reveal their wildest fantasies, but also know that they read each other's entries. Becoming increasingly frustrated, Nino wants his far younger wife to become less inhibited, and to this end, attempts to use the diary entries as a way to engineer an affair between her and their daughter's fiancée Laszlo (Franco Branciaroli).
