John Ford directs this 1950s comedy drama about the life of Irish immigrant Marty Maher. Having arrived in America from Irish town Tipperary, Maher (Tyrone Power) enlists in the United States Army where he rises through the ranks. He later becomes a swimming instructor at the US Military Academy at West Point, New York, and begins a romantic relationship with his future wife Mary O'Donnell (Maureen O'Hara).
