  • The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Extended Edition) [2002]
    Ben Price

A worthy production but falls short compared to The Fellowship of the Ring.

Peter Jacksons 2nd epic, expanded and extended from its cinematic release (to a bottom-numbing three and a half hours) which includes some great extras and menus. Content wise I felt this film added too much to the original book storyline that was unnecessary even for cinematic purposes. It also had the knock on effect of having to deal with the consequences of these alterations in the later film, The Return of the King.

However all is not lost as this version does include some nice extended sequences with the Ents and some other bits which make it more bare-able than the cinematic release. A worthy addition should you want to buy the full set and certainly better than the 2 disc edition.

The extended edition (over 40 extra minutes) of the second film in Peter Jackson's epic big screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. The Fellowship of the Ring has now divided and Sam and Frodo are lost in the hills of Emyn Muil. They are also being followed by Gollum, a creature who promises to help them find the Mountain of Doom. Meanwhile Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli search for the hobbits Merry and Pippin in the Kingdom of Rohan, which is currently being attacked by Saruman's orc armies. Gandalf returns as Gandalf the White to remind Aragorn of his destiny to unite the people of Rohan with Gondor. Whilst the Fellowship are not travelling together they must unite against the powerful forces coming from the Two Towers: Orthanc Tower in Isengard where Saruman has bred a deadly army of 10,000, and Sauron's fortress at Barad-dûr.

The Fellowship has divided and now finds themselves taking different paths to defeating Sauron and his allies Their destinies now lie at two towers - Orthanc Tower in Isengard where the corrupted wizard Saruman waits and Sauron&39;s fortress at Barad-dur deep within the dark lands of Mordor The Special Extended DVD edition of the worldwide phenomenon features 42 minutes of additional footage and scenes thoroughly integrated into the original theatrically released version of the film that made its worldwide debut on 5 December 2002 and which has since gone on to become the fifth most successful film in history
