Icíar Bollaín directs this Spanish drama following a family as they try to recover an ancient olive tree. To help her ailing grandfather Ramón (Manuel Cucala), who is unable to speak and refusing to eat, 20-year-old Alma (Anna Castillo) embarks on a quest to recover a beloved, 2,000-year-old millenary olive tree that the family previously sold against his will to open a restaurant. After she tracks the tree down to Düsseldorf, Alma enlists the help of her friends and the rest of the willing local community to succeed on a mission that takes her from her home in the east coast of Spain, through mainland Europe to Germany in a truck with only one plan - to return to her grandfather with his tree at any cost.
