Based on Emile Zola's novel AU BONHEUR DES DAMES (THE LADIES' DELIGHT), sumptuous period drama THE PARADISE is a love story set a Victorian department store in Northern England. Emun Elliott stars as The Paradise's widowed owner John Moray, who sees potential in lowly shop girl Denise Lovett (Joanna Vanderham). Working in his store she experiences the romance, glamour, intrigue and power play of high society from behind its counters.

All eight episodes from the first series of the BBC Victorian costume drama, adapted from the novel 'Au Bonheur des Dames' by Émile Zola. Set in a north of England town, the series follows shopworker Denise Lovett (Joanna Vanderham) as she struggles to make her way to the top after managing to gain a lowly position as a salesgirl at 'The Paradise', the town's newly opened upmarket department store. Whilst being kept under the watchful eye of head of ladies fashion, Miss Audrey (Sarah Lancashire), Denise is quick to snatch an opportunity for advancement when her talents come to the attention of the store's devious widowed owner, Moray (Emun Elliott).
