A contemporary adaptation of Nigel Kneale's seminal 1953 science fiction serial. A special two hour live event recreated the story of maverick Professor Bernard Quatermass as he attempted to push back the frontiers of space for Britain only for it to lead to terrifying consequences when his first manned rocket returns from its mission with only one of the three man crew still alive and the world falling under the shadow of a terrifying alien threat. This was an event made even more notable for being the corporation's first live drama broadcast for 21 years.

This BBC 4 remake of the classic 1950s television sci-fi play by Nigel Kneale was broadcast live, as it would have been in the 1950s. Jason Flemyng plays Professor Bernard Quatermass, head of the British Rocket Group, supervising a manned mission into the depths of space. When the rocket crashes back to Earth, only one of the astronauts, Victor Caroon (Andrew Tiernan) has survived, although his body seems strangely altered. When the astronaut disappears from hospital, Quatermass and his team try to track him down before he hurts himself, not realising that Caroon's is being transformed by a horrific alien infection, one that could easily destroy humanity and the world. David Tennant, Indira Varma and Mark Gatiss also star.
