This is the amazing true story of a wealthy English heiress whose elopement prompted her husband to sue her lover and sparked one of the greatest sex scandals of the 18th century. In 1781, Lady Seymour Worsley causes outrage when she runs away with her lover, Captain George Bisset. Her furious husband, respectable MP Sir Richard Worsley, responds by suing Bisset for "criminal conversation," demanding a record 20,000 pounds for the damage done to his "property": Lady Seymour. While Seymour and Bisset hide out in a London hotel, Sir Richard and his lawyers set about proving his wife's infidelity through a series of devious schemes. In court, Sir Richard lies, painting a perfect picture of his marriage and persuading others to do the same.
