The 1980’s and 1990’s witnessed the resurgence of the most famous football team in the world Manchester United and along with regular cup winners Liverpool Arsenal Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea the FA Cup continued to be the one football tournament that all players across the world wanted to win. The new millennium also witnessed some sensational games in the FA Cup with Final wins for Chelsea (2000) Liverpool (2001) and Arsenal (2002). The 2003 Final was contested by Arsenal and Southampton and played under a close roof for the first time ever in FA Cup history at the magnificent Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. The Final was decided by a clinical strike by Arsenal’s French forward Robert Pires who stroked the ball past a despairing Anti Neimi seven minutes before half time. The 1-0 triumph secured victory for the North London Club with Arsenal becoming the first team for 21 years to win the famous trophy two seasons in a row.
