Ben Affleck plays a professional thief who falls for a bank manager (Hall) after a dangerous heist. He struggles with this newfound relationship whilst evading a tenacious FBI agent (Hamm) looking to catch him and his crew before they rob another bank.
This is Afflecks finest movie. If you like HEAT with Pacino and DeNiro then you will like The Town, it's as simple as that.
This movie didn't get the ratings it deserved.
Following on from his directorial success with 'Gone Baby Gone', actor /director Ben Affleck chalks up another winner with Boston crime thriller 'The Town'. Working class armed robber Affleck tries to turn over a new leaf when he falls for a girl his gang took hostage in a recent heist. 'The Town' may tread familiar crime genre territory but all it's done which such verve and intensity that you rarely notice the narrative clichés. Ben Affleck ought to be applauded for his efforts both in front of and behind the camera; for he balances out the human drama with good action sequences and an excellent, 'Heat'-esque gun-battle at the end (listen out for the brilliant use of sound editing with the sonic grenade). Great ensemble acting, brutal violence and authentic Bostonian accents / dialect. An excellent film overall, brilliantly executed and thoroughly entertaining to boot. Worth a purchase.
