Triple bill of comedy films directed by the Farrelly Brothers. In 'There's Something About Mary' (1998), high school senior Ted Stroehmann (Ben Stiller) gets a date with gorgeous classmate Mary Jenson (Cameron Diaz) after rescuing her mentally handicapped brother, Warren (W. Earl Brown), from a bully. The date is ruined when Ted catches his penis in his fly zip and has to be rushed to hospital. 13 years on, Ted is still obsessed with Mary, and hires private detective Pat Healy (Matt Dillon) to find her. Healy tracks Mary and Warren to Miami, but falls in love with her himself and tells Ted that she is now an overweight mother of four. Undeterred, Ted makes his own way to Miami, but soon finds that he has plenty of competition for Mary's attentions. In 'Shallow Hal' (2001), Hal Larson (Jack Black) is a typical Joe Blow when it comes to his aspirations for a date. She must be magazine beautiful and who cares about her personality? He keeps an eye out for the ladies when down the bar with his long-term buddy Mauricio (Jason Alexander), but somehow the A-list beauties just aren't attracted to slobbish Hal. But after a chance meeting with (real-life) management guru Anthony Robbins, Hal is hypnotised to see the 'inner' beauty in other people and soon starts seeing the obese as thin and attractive. He then strikes up a relationship with the seemingly beautiful Rosemary (Gwyneth Paltrow), who in fact weighs over three hundred pounds. His friends aren't sure what to make of this strange turn in Hal's life and resolve to bring him back from his hypnotic reverie, with unexpected results. Finally, in 'Me, Myself and Irene' (2000), mild-mannered police officer Charlie Baileygates (Jim Carrey) is given the job of taking the beautiful Irene P. White (Renee Zellweger) upstate to face false criminal charges. The only problem is, Charlie suffers from Split Personality Disorder and wherever he goes, so does his foul-mouthed, super-aggressive alter-ego Hank. When an attempt is made on Irene's life, she, Charlie and Hank are forced to go on the run, with Charlie and Hank fighting over her affections and the true criminals, the Rhode Island state troopers, and Charlie's three black sons all following in hot pursuit.
