Sicilia! (1999): Based on Elio Vittorini's seminal 1938-1939 anti-fascist novel Conversations in Sicily, banned by the Fascists in 1942, Sicilia! is a four part film which follows Silvestro, an emigrant who is returning home after fifteen years spent in America. His conversations, with his mother, on the train, or on the price of oranges, as well as the recurrent shot of arid landscape outside the train window, supply some of the most intense and memorable moments in contemporary cinema. Un Visite Au Louvre (2004): As the camera shows us some of the masterpieces held in the Louvre, Julie Kotaï speaks the comments made about the paintings by Cézanne which were put into writing by the poet Joachim Gasquet. Three-volume set of films by the French filmmakers who were also husband and wife. 'The Chronicle of Anna Magdalene Bach' (1968) is a portrayal of Johann Sebastian Bach's musical life, mainly showing him conducting or playing, as told in voiceover by his wife Anna (Christiana Lang). In 'Sicilia' (1999), a returning emigre learns about the Sicilian way of life from those he meets en route. Finally, 'Une Visite Au Louvre' (2004) is based on a chapter of Joachim Gasquet's book, 'Cezanne', that recounts the famous artist's visit to the Louvre. A variety of works are subsequently examined alongside Cezanne's forthright comments.
This collection brings together three of the films by collaborating directors Daniele Huillet and Je4an-Marie Straub. Includes: CHRONICLE OF ANNA MAGDALENA BACH, SICILIA! and UNE VISITE AU LOUVRE.
