Originally made for Granada Television's 'This England' series, this 1977 film by Tony Palmer documents the idiosyncratic Northern Soul scene based around the weekly club night that ran at the Wigan Casino dance hall from 1973 to 1981. From slow motion dance shots to scenes of fervent vinyl swapping, Palmer captures the bustle and energy - as well as the cultural oddity - that was the Northern Soul phenomenon.
