Ranging in time from the early 1930s to the late 1980s this DVD utilises archive film to create a vivid recollection of the golden days of the railways. Old Southern Railway trains are shown on their way to the seaside followed by the approaches to Waterloo Station in the snow of 1947. Carlisle Station is shown full of smart electric locos then back in time to 1966 for steam locos at the same station. The once extensive Longmoor Military System in 1968 is shown. Then onto York and the Derwent Valley Preservation Railway which despite its proximity to the museum... only lasted a couple of years. The now closed Swindon Works is shown first in the 30s where a loco is steaming away followed by a visit in 1975 during the diesel-hydraulic era. Finally a visit in 1987 during the last weeks of the works. [show more]
